PEJP Bootcamp
The Pakistan Entrepreneurial Journalism Program (PEJP) bootcamps are designed to introduce and strengthen core concepts of entrepreneurial journalism. These intensive sessions equip participants with the foundational knowledge and practical tools needed to transform startup ideas into sustainable digital media ventures. Even for those not selected for the final advanced cohort, the bootcamp offers essential exposure to business modelling, content strategy, and platform development.
Led by seasoned professionals from journalism, digital media, content creation, and entrepreneurship, the bootcamp delivers a hands-on learning experience grounded in real-world insights.
Day 1: Foundations of Digital Journalism
The first day focuses on the building blocks of entrepreneurial journalism, ethical reporting in the digital age, content creation, and launching digital news startups. Participants explore the process of developing a news brand, identifying a niche, and creating meaningful engagement with digital audiences. Hands-on training in mobile journalism (MOJO) is a key feature of the day, complemented by individual assignments and group exercises. By the end of the session, participants gain clarity on their Digital News Platform (DNP) vision, define ethical content practices, and begin shaping their content strategies.
Day 2: Strategy, Branding, and Monetization
The second day dives into digital media marketing, blog and website development, search engine optimization (SEO), and startup business planning. Participants engage in exercises related to startup models, traffic generation, and monetizing their content through blogs and YouTube. The day also features practical training in vlog production, audience engagement strategies, and an introduction to YouTube monetization standards. By the end of Day 2, each participant develops a viable business plan tailored to their DNP, ready to pitch to potential investors or funders.
Day 3: Advanced Business Modelling and Digital Growth
The final day opens with an analysis of Pakistan’s current digital media landscape and its evolving trends. Participants explore business models for DNPs, digital payment integration, and strategies for audience retention and brand loyalty. Sessions cover key topics such as startup sustainability, marketing analytics, budgeting for growth, quality control, and monetization tools across various digital platforms. By the end of the bootcamp, participants leave with a complete digital portfolio, a customized marketing and monetization strategy, and actionable insights to scale their platforms sustainably.
