Two Impactful workshops in the first year of the project were organized in Lahore and Islamabad to address the challenges women face in the media industry, whether in electronic, print and digital media platforms. These workshops were designed to empower women to confront and mitigate the challenges, providing them with the knowledge and tools to navigate and thrive in male-dominated spaces. In the workshops, a comprehensive overview was provided regarding the issues women journalists encounter in the media. Participants learned about the various forms of harassment and attacks they might face, and the steps needed to protect themselves. The sessions also covered the reporting mechanisms available to women and the avenues they can pursue if they experience harassment in any media sphere.
Sadaf Khan, the primary trainer, shared her extensive experience in advocating for effective policies that promote open and secure media practices. Her insights provided participants with practical strategies for creating safer and more inclusive work environments. While the guest speaker Gharidah Farooqi shared her experiences fighting an online harassment campaign, which is just one of many similar challenges she has endured. Her insights allowed her to provide practical avenues of discourse when facing targeted attacks, not only from online trolls but also from institutional and systemic assaults.
