For International Women’s Day 2022, GNMI has organized an online webinar titled “Women in Media: Survival, Growth and Leadership,” featuring celebrated female professionals Najia Ashar, Dr. Huma Baqai, Tanzeela Mazhar, and Nasira Zuberi.
The panelists engage in a constructive discussion on the survival, growth, and leadership of women in media. They emphasize the need for gender mainstreaming in decision-making roles, noting that significant change will only occur when women are actively involved. The discussion highlights the issue of unequal wages, which has spurred the Aurat March, and addresses the disparity in organizational responses to harassment. It is noted that while high-profile women receive support, those behind the scenes often face injustice without recourse. Experts also criticize the inappropriate use of terminology in newsrooms, calling for respectful and accurate language to ensure fair representation of women in media.
The inspirational stories of role models are also published on GNMI’s social media platforms in celebration of International Women’s Day.
