Under this project, five media sensitization sessions titled “Promoting Leadership and Resilience of Women in Media” have been conducted with female media content producers. The training program aims to enhance participants’ capacity to produce media content on diversity, acceptance, pluralism, and peace. Senior journalists Afia Salam and Sidra Dar have served as trainers for these sessions.
First session explores programmatic aspects in her peace sensitization session, elaborating on various aspects of peace journalism and the role of media and civil society organizations in sustaining peace in society. She discusses how mainstream media can engage and advocate for peace narratives, and her presentation includes case studies of published peace-centric stories on digital, print, and social media platforms.
The second segment focuses on gender sensitization in her session. She elucidates the difference between gender and sex and explains ways to ensure the 5Ws (Who, What, Why, When, and Where) and 1H (How) in reporting with gender-sensitive terminologies. She also highlights the role of women in media through practical examples of female anchors and other media personalities.
In the final phase, a brainstorming session is conducted where all participants present their story ideas one by one and receive feedback from facilitators. Participants express immense enthusiasm for publishing gender-sensitive and peace-centric content in the media.
