Consultation
An expert consultation to affirm findings from a comprehensive study on ethical media reporting of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) cases, survivor support services, and criminal justice processes in Punjab has been conducted. This consultation convened subject matter experts and stakeholders to validate the study’s outcomes, exploring responsible media coverage, inter-organizational coordination, family law components, and digital media worker training. Emphasizing dignified reporting and robust survivor support, the discussion has led to recommendations for improved coordination, enhanced legal provisions, and ethical reporting. This valuable platform facilitated knowledge exchange, providing insights and guidance for effective GBV response in Punjab. Recommendations encompass law dissemination, budget allocation, SOPs for police-prosecutor cooperation, and language use. Additional subjects covered included domestic and home-based workers, central platforms for experts, and cybercrime reporting and redress mechanisms.
Curriculum Development
Our training curriculum is rooted in comprehensive needs assessment studies conducted within media outlets. Modules have been shaped by insights from Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) and Key Informant Interviews (KIIs), addressing identified gaps. With the media’s potential as a powerful advocacy tool against gender bias and violence, our modules aim to empower journalists covering GBV. They encompass root causes and consequences of GBV, an overview of relevant legislation, criminal justice processes, and ethical guidelines for reporting violence against women. The training curriculum also provides a directory of laws, redress mechanisms, and support platforms for GBV cases.
