International Women’s Day, celebrated since 1911, envisions a world where women participate equally in social, economic, cultural, and political spheres. It promotes gender parity to accelerate societal progress rather than invoking competition among genders.
On Saturday, March 8, 2019, GNMI hosted the launch event for the “Lub Kushaai” program, drawing 43 participants from diverse fields, including media and civil society personalities, senior politicians, and officials from national and international institutions. The event has highlighted the challenges, opportunities, and success stories of Pakistani women.
Najia Ashar, Founder and President of GNMI, has praised the #BalanceForBetter platform for supporting women in their pursuit of personal and societal improvement. Distinguished speakers and guests at the event have also emphasized women’s rights and dignity, while also addressing gender-based violence and discrimination. Senior politician Mr. Saeed Ghani remarked, “We need to celebrate this day not only for the elite and blessed women but for those who are deprived yet striving to improve their families’ lives.”
The event has gained significant attention due to the presence of the Pakistan-U.S. Alumni Network (PUAN) and Mr. Jason Green from the U.S. Consulate General office in Karachi, who have both acknowledged GNMI’s efforts and highlighted unspoken social issues in Pakistan. The event has concluded with tokens of appreciation being awarded to successful women for their hard work and contributions.
