GNMI launches #balanceforbetter in Pakistan and sets the benchmark to celebrate Women Day conference

Global Neighbourhood for Media Innovation (GNMI) celebrated International Women’s Day 2019 by highlighting the challenges, opportunities and success stories of our women in Pakistan. A wide range of stakeholders from all walks of life were present to share their views. This elite meeting was honored by many media and civil society personalities –Senior Politician Mr. Taj Haider, Model & Fashion Icon Ms. Nadia Hussain, Sindh Local Government Minister Mr. Saeed Ghani, Commissioner Karachi Mr. Iftekhar Shalwani, Women Activist Ms. Uzma Alkarim, Senior Journalist Ms. Maria Memon, SSP Sindh Police Ms. Sohai Aziz, Educationist Dr. Mohammad Ali Shaikh, Senior Journalist Masood Raza, MPA Sindh Assembly Ms. Nusrat Sahar Abbasi and Mr. Jason Green Public affairs office, at US Consulate Karachi. At this auspicious event, GNMI formally announced its grand launch with its project “Lab Kushai” in Karachi.

“I believe this is the right time to launch GNMI on 8th March, it symbolizes many things- It’s kind of platform established by a women giving an honor to successful women to encourage their struggle and It is a network to bring media and civil society together to discuss the most pressing issues of our times.” Said Ms. Najia Ashar, founder & President of GNMI.

All the distinguished speakers emphasized on women dignity and rights by discussing life examples and working models to make this idea #BalanceForBetter workable.  More than 50 top-notch celebrities and civil society members gathered to raise the voice against gender inequality and to cherish the women’s achievements. At its launch event, GNMI made the day memorable for many women by giving token of appreciation for their hard work and efforts.

“We need to celebrate this day not only for the sake of only elite and blessed women but for those who are deprived yet they are struggling to make their families’ life better” emphasized Mr. Saeed Ghani.

Presence of Pak-US Alumni Network (PUAN) Karachi, at this remarkable day was really encouraging, this helping hand network has been supporting different civil society capacities for more than 60 years, Mr. Jason Green represented US Counsel General appreciated the efforts done by women in Pakistan and acknowledged GNMI idea; to highlight unspoken social issues in Pakistan.
